Earn your BSL in preparation to earn your MA in Speech Language Pathology
Get started in the right direction by earning your bachelor’s degree with speech prerequisites built in to your degree in preparation for applying to a Master’s in Speech Language Pathology program. TTI offers a combined or separate BSL/MA program for students living in the US but outside of the NY metropolitan area. The information below applies to the BSL program only. Information on the Master’s program can be found under Graduate Programs.
Speech therapists, also called speech language pathologists diagnose and treat students for speech, language and related disorders. Many speech therapist, provide services in elementary, secondary or post-secondary schools, helping students improve their language and communication skills, leading them to a stronger academic performance. They also work in hospitals, rehab centers and nursing homes with a wide range of speech impaired children and adults.
A speech therapist may do one or more of the following:
- Work with children one-on-one or in groups to treat voice disorders, stuttering problems or learning disabilities
- Conduct school-wide hearing tests to identify and diagnose auditory problems among young children and promote early intervention
- Teach students with hearing or speech conditions to use sign language
- Team with special education teachers to create comprehensive treatment plans for special needs children
- Counsel parents on how to cope with speech and language disorders
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators and parents to implement speech therapy programs
TTI’s BSL program through Excelsior College will prepare you to enter a fast growing and necessary field. Upon completion of this program, students will have acquired a broad knowledge in general education, with a sound foundation suitable for diverse careers in health, education, and human services.
Earn your Degree in Speech Language Pathology in 9 steps:
Call admissions and sign up with TTI. Membership to TTI gives students access to academic advisement and all student services.
Get started by speaking with an Academic Advisor (either in person or on the phone, based on your location) to plan your degree. You advisor will include all necessary prerequisites required to apply for TTI's Master's in Speech Pathology program. Get previous credit evaluated and transferred to Excelsior College (including Seminary and Yeshiva learning) and shorten the time needed to complete your degree.
Your advisor will help you become familiar with the many student services offered at TTI including our unique system of exams, TTI's lending library and testing locations.
Start taking exams. Take as many as you want at your own speed. TTI has testing sites located in 16 locations worldwide. For students who do not live close to a testing site, TTI has private proctors located all over the world.
Follow your degree plan and keep taking exams or courses until you complete your degree.
Speak with your advisor on a regular basis. We suggest at least once a month. Your advisor is available 6 days a week either by phone or e-mail.
