About the Program
Our Special Education Program is open to students anywhere in the US and Israel. It allows students to earn a master’s degree from Daemen University and obtain New York State certification in both special education and general education. The program blends engaging courses taught by experienced professors with hands-on fieldwork, preparing you for a successful career in special education.
We offer two program options:
- Traditional Program – Open to students in the United States and in Israel.
New York students in this program can receive an Internship Certification after their second semester. - Alternative Certification Program – Available to New York residents only.
Students in this program may receive a Transitional B Certification after their first semester qualifying them for higher-paying positions while completing their degree.
Students in both programs take the same courses with the same professors, but fieldwork requirements differ based on the program.
Each program offers two concentration tracks:
- Childhood Special Education – Leads to the All Grades: Students with Disabilities Certification.
- Early Childhood Special Education – Leads to the Early Childhood: Students with Disabilities Certification.
General education certification can also be earned alongside your chosen track.

Your Path to Becoming a Special Educator
- Classes & Coursework
Attend online Sunday classes (9:00 am–1:15 pm EST) and complete weekly independent coursework over 3 semesters (18 months). - Fieldwork
Complete the required supervised fieldwork and student teaching. - Graduate with a Master of Science in Special Education!
Where Can Your Degree Take You?
Becoming a special educator opens doors to various job opportunities, including classroom teaching, consulting, P3 and SEIT, resource room teaching, reading/kriyah therapy, and more. You can find a rewarding career inside and outside the classroom, with full-time, part-time, hourly, and salaried positions available.
