An Accounting Degree can open up many doors for extremely promising career tracks. Graduates typically find employment in accounting corporations, private firms, government agencies in accounting and auditing and internal auditing. Accountants may also establish a private practice or work as a freelancer. Training includes business economics, auditing, ERP systems, general ledger and accounting systems, bookkeeping, and more.

The BS in Business / Accounting Concentration through Excelsior College is a challenging program geared toward the self-motivated and academically oriented student. This degree is completed via self-study without class based instruction. Many students enrolled in this program proceed to become CPAs, which can lead to extremely lucrative positions. CPAs typically demand significantly higher salaries than ordinary accountants.


Of the 120 credits required for this degree, you must take 60 credits in liberal arts, 54 credits in business and accounting, and 6 credits in free electives. Many of the liberal arts/free elective requirements can be fulfilled by taking the Jewish Subject Examinations (JSEs). Other required courses include English Composition, Ethics, Algebra, Statistics, History, Economics, and Information Literacy. The 54 credits in business include CLEP examinations, Dantes, Coopersmith courses and several distance learning courses. Accounting courses are completed through Louisiana State University. In order for you to receive your CPA license in NY, an additional 30 credits are required. These credits will include business (6), accounting (12), and the rest through electives in Jewish Subject Exams.


This program can be completed in approximately 3-4 years. In order to take the CPA exam, you may choose this degree on the NY State track.

This is a 120 credit degree plus an additional 30 credits to fulfill requirements needed for licensure in the states of New York and New Jersey.


The cost of this program is approximately $11,500. An additional 30 credits in accounting will increase the cost to approximately $15,000. Financial aid is available to eligible students.
